How to Create an Office Anywhere in the House

How to Create an Office Anywhere in the House

When you’re working from home, it can be challenging to tune out the distractions of household chores, the dog, the kids, and the TV remote dangling in front of your face. However, establishing an official work zone within your home will help regain that focus.

If you haven't had a chance to create an office within your space, it’s not too late to start getting more productive. From your kitchen island to your bedroom, read on for some inspiration on how to make WFH work.

Kitchens are natural gathering spaces, but after the family inhales breakfast, the kitchen island or dining table gives you plenty of room to spread out. Plus, working in the kitchen gives you easy access to snacks, which is always a good thing in our book. The key to a home office in the kitchen is to use organizers that make it convenient to pack up your workstation once 5 o’clock hits.

What you’ll need:

  • An antimicrobial Portable Desk Pad to protect your counter (and give your stuff a clean slate).

  • A Desk Organizer lets you quickly stash your work essentials out of sight so you can, ya know, actually cook in your kitchen.

  • A Wall Cup + Wall Pocket to turn your fridge door (or any wall) into an extra work storage space.

How to create an office in your living room...

If all you need is your laptop and a little bit of elbow room, the living room can serve as your headquarters. Though it’s possible to wedge in a full-size desk behind the couch, you don’t necessarily want to make your chill-out space feel like a co-working space at the end of the day. Plus, reconfiguring your furniture can be a drag. Luckily, there’s ways to make your living room office flow with the rest of the room.

What you’ll need:

  • The Portable Laptop Desk quickly adjusts between 1.5” and 21.5” to make it instantly ergonomic whether you’re sitting, standing, or reclining on the couch. It’s also easily foldable so it can be stashed under your media console or behind the couch when not in use.

  • The Power Points Outlet features two USB ports and two outlets to make sure all your electronics stay juiced.

  • The Spot Side Table gives you more space to spread out and keep necessities at your fingertips.

How to create a home office in your bedroom…

While experts say it’s not ideal to work where you sleep (our brains then associate beds with wakefulness), if square footage is tight, there’s sometimes no way around it. The least you can do is get off your bed and carve out a dedicated area of your bedroom for your office. Plus, working in your bedroom has its perks: a door you can close for privacy—and hopefully a nice window view.

What you’ll need:

  • The 40” Key Desk has a small footprint that allows your desk to fit into unusual or small places. It assembles in minutes (without tools!) and it can fold up on the weekends so you can reclaim your space.

  • A Monitor Riser helps get your screen to a more ergonomic height. It also doubles as an all-purpose shelf, so you have a larger desk surface to work on.

  • When space it at a premium, the Desk Organizer has multiple compartments and sliding fins to keep your compact desk organized.

How to create a home office in your spare room…

Blessed with ample space and just need the perfect setup? It’s time to finally step up your home office game with a desk and chair that’ll last for the long haul.

What you’ll need:

  • The Series L 2S Adjustable Height Single Desk makes the most of your ample space by giving you the flexibility of changing up how you work throughout the day. A simple push of a button quietly adjusts it from sitting to standing in seconds.

  • The Pitch Meeting Chair is height adjustable, fully upholstered, and cushioned for comfort.

  • The Mini Stow File Cabinet gives you both storage and spare seating that works as an ottoman or when your kiddo wants to, er, join in on your next Zoom meeting.
