The Psychology of Space: How Layout Influences Behavior at Work
Workspace design shapes how people collaborate, focus, and perform. Discover the psychology behind office layout—and how smarter design can improve productivity.

“It’s a special collaboration,” says Annie Auchincloss, Product Manager, Retail, at MoMA Design Store. “With the quality of the product, there was nothing to enhance; it was just that we could add a playful edge."
That playful edge, which made our Stow File Cabinet ideal for the modern home office, has only become more important as long-term remote work continues to be a part of our everyday lives.
Our second collaboration with MoMA Design Store, which launches this month, is another exclusive colorway—this time, we’re featuring primary colors in a smile-making combo.

“It’s within our brand language to play on primary colors and have a reference to De Stijl, an early 20th century design movement,” says Auchincloss. “This could be good for a student’s room or a kid’s room, or maybe it’s a shared family file cabinet.”
As home and work continue to blend in ways we’ve never seen before, colorful and functional office products help us bridge the gap between the two. Without the office as a separate space, the home office can become a place to express your individual style and find daily inspiration.
"If you have worked in a traditional office, you want your home to be a ‘sanctuary,’ but now we need to integrate your work life and your home life,” says Auchincloss. “At MoMA we believe the way to do that is through good design.”
